The Hampi Festival is celebrated in the deserted city of Hampi, once the capital of the historical Vijayanagar Empire. It is situated at a distance of approximately 353 km from the capital city of Bangalore. Every year in the first week of November, the ruined city plays host to a festival of dance and music, known as the Hampi Festival or Vijaya Utsav of Karnataka. This time period sees the otherwise desolate city, brimming with enthusiastic people who come to enjoy the open-air environment of the celebrations.
Organized by the Government of Karnataka, the Hampi Dance and Music Festival witnesses participation of some of the most distinguished people from the field of art, dance, music and drama. The classic music playing form the instruments soothes the soul, while the graceful steps of the dancers leave you mesmerized. The other attractions of the festival include fireworks, puppet shows, processions, which bring back to life the memories of the bygone era.
