Moatsu festival is an annual event celebrated in the month of May in the state of Nagaland. The festival is magnificently celebrated by the Ao tribes of Nagaland. Moatsu festival features various rituals and symbolic celebrations. For the tribal people, the festival is a time of gaiety and recreation after the hectic work of cleaning fields, burning jungles and sowing seeds. This work also includes cleaning up the wells and repair and construction of houses by elders.
The Moatsu festival is marked by the peppy songs and dances full of fun and merry making. One of the major attractions of this festival is Sangpangtu. During the programme, a fire is lit and men and women sit around it. They wear their best attire, and the women serve meat and wine.
