Paripally Gajamela (elephant pageant) is an annual festival unique to Paripally in Kerala. Paripally town is famous for this annual elephant parade. During the procession, the elephants are devoted by devotees at the temple of goddess Bhadrakali for affluence and prosperity. Every year, over fifty big elephants take part in this ground-shaking procession.
The people of Kerala are very keen on elephant processions and you will rarely find a celebration without the participation of elephants. In the bygone era, wealthy families of Kerala used to keep an elephant, which was considered a member of their household.
