Ingredients:
- 1 cup lukewarm Milk
- 1 cake compressed Yeast
- ½ pound sifted Pastry Flour
- ½ cup Vegetable Shortening
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2 cups Bran
- ½ cup Raisins
- ½ cup dried Currants
- ½ cup Walnuts (chopped)
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Cooking Instructions:
- Dissolve the yeast in warm milk.
- Gradually add flour, whisking to mix well. Keep it in a warm place to rise.
- Boil the raisins and currants in little water for 1 minute and drain.
- Whisk together shortening and sugar until creamy.
- Beat in the egg until stiff. Add this mixture to flour mixture and whisk to uniformly combine.
- Stir in the raisins, currants, and nuts and pour into a buttered pan.
- Keep at a warm place to rise about ½-inch and bake for 55-60 minutes in an oven at 350 degree F.
