Ingredients:
- 2½ cups sifted Cake Flour
- ½ cup Unsweetened Cocoa
- 1½ tsp Baking Soda
- ½ tsp Salt
- 1 tbsp Vinegar
- 1 cup Milk
- 1 cup Vegetable Shortening
- 1½ cups Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- ½ cup Hot Water
- 1 tsp Vanilla
For Burnt Sugar Frosting:
- ¼ cup Unsalted Butter
- 300 gm Powdered Sugar
- Pinch of Salt
- ¼ cup Burnt Sugar Syrup
- 1 tsp Vanilla
Cooking Instructions:
- Prepare burnt sugar frosting by whisking together entire ingredients for frosting in a bowl, until creamy, smooth and spreadable. Add little water if required.
- Grease 3 (8x2-inch) cake pans and dust with flour.
- Combine together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt in a large bowl.
- Combine milk with vinegar in a seperate bowl and leave it for 5 minutes.
- Whisk together shortening, sugar and eggs with an electric mixture at high speed for 3 minutes.
- Stir in flour mixture alternating with milk mixture, beating frequently until a smooth batter is formed.
- Mix in hot water & vanilla to the batter and pour into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes. Cool in the oven for 10 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and loosen the edges. Reverse and pour burnt sugar frosting over each piece, reserving a little.
- Arrange one layer above another and frost with remaining frosting.
- Slice and serve.
