- 2 cups All-purpose Flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- ¾ cup Shortening
- 4 tbsp Cold Water
Filling
- 7 cups thinly sliced peeled Baking Apples
- 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1 cup Sugar
- ¼ cup All-purpose Flour
- ½ tsp Salt
- 1 tsp ground Cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground Nutmeg
- 2 tbsp Butter or Margarine
- 1 Egg Yolk
- 1 tbsp Water
Preparation
- Combine flour and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Cut in shortening and slowly add water, 1 tbsp at a time.
- Toss lightly with a fork until the dough forms a ball.
- Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Remove and transfer half of the dough on a floured surface.
- Roll out into a 10-inch circle.
- Place in the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan.
- Place apples in a bowl.
- Sprinkle lemon juice and toss until the apples are evenly coated.
- Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg in a separate bowl.
- Add to the apples and blend well.
- Pour over the crust.
- Dot with butter.
- Roll out the remaining dough, large enough to cover the top of the pie.

Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350 °F (175 °C).
- Prepare the topping by mixing oats, brown sugar, flour, almonds, and cinnamon in a bowl.
- Cut in butter and mix until you get a crumbly mixture. Keep aside.
- Roll out the pie dough into a 10-inch circle and line in a 9-inch pie plate.
- Trim the pastry and crimp the edges.
