NASSCOM stands for National Association of Software
and Service Companies (of India). NASSCOM is a global trade body with
around 850 members, of which nearly 150 are global companies from the
US, UK, EU, Japan and China. NASSCOM's member companies are in the
business of software development, software services, and IT-enabled/BPO
services. It is the vision of NASSCOM that India becomes a software
powerhouse in the 21st century. It is continuously endeavoring to make
India as the global sourcing center for software and services.
NASSCOM was set up with the aim of facilitating business and trade in
software and services and also to encourage advancement of research in
software technology. NASSCOM is a not-for-profit organization,
registered under the Societies Act, 1860. One of the strongest
proponents of free trade in India, NASSCOM continuously encourages its
members to adopt world class management practices, build and maintain
high standards and compete well at the global level.
The basic objective of NASSCOM is to act as a facilitator for the
growth and advancement of the software powered IT industry in India.
Some of the other key aims and objectives of NASSCOM include
facilitation of trade and business in software and services, promotion
and advancement of research, spreading education and creating employment
and enabling the growth of the Indian economy. NNASSCOM also strives for
narrowing the digital divide in India and ensuring that the benefits of
IT revolution go to the underprivileged as well.
